San Jacinto, Ca– Assemblyman Paul Cook (R-Yucca Valley) announced that he will co-host a free Senior Scam Stopper event in coordination with Senator Bill Emmerson (R-Hemet) at the City of San Jacinto Community Center (665 S. Pico Ave., San Jacinto, Ca 92583) on Friday, February 4, 2011 between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Cook worked closely with the California Contractors State License Board to organize this event.
Constituents are invited to drop by and hear presentations from an expert panel on how to best protect against scams. The panel includes various agencies that assist vulnerable senior residents. Invitees include the following: Contractors State License Board, Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair, Department of Insurance, Department of Corporations, Public Utilities Commission, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Subject matter to be discussed include the following topics: home improvement and repairs, auto repairs, predatory scams, insurance scams, financial scams, telecommunication scams, consumer scams, elder abuse, and an update on any current scams impacting the region locally.
Assemblyman Cook declared, “Protecting our seniors is a top priority for me. I’ve seen too many cases where a senior trusts the wrong person and a lifetime’s savings and good credit is lost overnight. I’ve been hosting these senior scam stopper events for four years now and will continue to host them as long as I’m in office.”
Senator Emmerson added, “During these difficult economic times, consumers are more vulnerable to a variety of scams as well as identity theft. I encourage everyone to stop by this seminar and to arm yourself with information so you can avoid becoming a victim of these crimes.”
