San Jacinto, CA– On Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 5:48 AM, officers of the San Jacinto Police Department responded to assist a Perris Police motorcycle enforcement officer in the 1000 block of Sandy Nook Dr., San Jacinto. The motorcycle officer was on his way to work when he noticed a vehicle burglary in progress. The officer attempted to place the suspect under arrest and the suspect fled on foot.
As the officer followed the suspect through backyard fences, he accidentally discharged his duty weapon. No one was injured as a result of the discharge. An internal investigation will be conducted into the discharge and the name of the deputy is being withheld at this time.
Responding deputies quickly attempted to establish a perimeter, but the suspect was able to elude capture. Several victims of vehicle burglaries were identified. Those victims in turn, were able to identify stolen property recovered by the deputy at the scene.
