Sending a Holiday Thanks to the Wombats

ssrex 213x300 Sending a Holiday Thanks to the WombatsMany years ago my Grandfather was the Publicity Agent for the SS REX, a gambling boat that was anchored off  Santa Monica in the 1930s. His mantra was, “it doesn’t matter what they say about you, just as long as they are talking about you.” This is one of the few sage things that my grandfather ever said to me that stuck.

I am always tickled when someone calls me on the phone or drops me an email to let me know that I was mentioned in one of the local papers. It’s usually never a  flattering comment, but it is a comment none the less. I guess its the thought that counts.

It has been years since I have written a thing for the local papers and have made it a habit of staying out of the comment sections. But, I do when notified go over to their site and get a gander of what they have to say about me.

It seems my name is bantered about on the on line edition all the time, as if I actually was a politician or what we said here on Cactus thorns actually carries weight with the community. I got to tell you I’m flattered.

oldhippies 200x300 Sending a Holiday Thanks to the WombatsIt seems the  local paper’s NIMBY crowd is obsessed with Cactusthorns in general and me in particular. I just want to thank them for making Cactusthorns their Number One website. (we do have a line of t-shirts and coffee mugs in our on line store)

So I would like to tell O’Natural and DS Weasel and the others that just can’t help dropping my name and the name of our website in the local paper, “Keep up the good work, We’re  hoping that you, by bad mouthing and name dropping, can help us to be in the top 100 websites in California next year.”

I don’t mind if you call me names but I do want you to be smart enough to at least be able to spell my name right, and if The Hi-Desert Publishing is going to allow gratuitous sniping in their comment section they ought to at least reciprocate with linking our website. I do insist upon  as per my terms of use and Reuse and Copyright policy that when you mention my name or the website you post the URL. I mean what good is all this name calling if the reader on the other site is unable to judge for his or her self?

I don’t know why you don’t like me, ’cause I really really do love you.

Happy Holidays
