La Quinta, Ca– On December 19, 2010, at about 4:00 A.M, La Quinta Police officers responded to the 53-000 block of Avenida Villa in regards to a stabbing. A large party was taking place at the residence and an argument between several party-goers ensued. During the incident, two suspects assaulted an adult Hispanic male. One of the suspects stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest, causing moderate injuries.
As the suspects fled the residence in a car, the driver hit a female party-goer and collided with several parked cars. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which was later stopped by officers on Washington Street and Harris Street in Palm Desert. The suspects were identified as Charles “Chucky” Raye Laird II, 25 years old, and Steven Paul Horn, 27 years old, both from Beaumont.
Laird was arrested for felony driving under the influence causing injury, along with felony hit and run. Horn was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem, causing serious injury.
The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital, but is expected to recover. The female, who was struck by the car, received medical treatment from paramedics and was released at the scene.
