Man rides stolen ATV across golf course in front of deputy
HESPERIA • A Hesperia man was arrested Tuesday morning after he unknowingly did a doughnut on the Hesperia golf course in front of a Sheriff’s deputy, officials said. An investigation revealed the ATV was stolen.
Ryan Morrison, 20, was arrested for possession of stolen property at about 12:30 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Hesperia station officials said.
Deputy Kevin McCurdy was patrolling in the area of Buckthorn and I avenues searching for a man on an ATV who was riding on the golf course, according to Sgt. Ken Lutz. Suddenly, a rider later identified as Morrison came out of a field and rode out right in front of the deputy.
McCurdy stopped Morrison and through an investigation learned the ATV had been stolen on Thanksgiving day.
Morrison was booked into the Victor Valley Jail and the stolen ATV was returned to its owner.

Mark, good story on this OHV rider.
When is one, one, and when is one, not one? Seems to me since this jerk was legally off-roading, he is an illegal off-roader.
If a drunk driver is driving drunk and operating a vehicle he ripped-off, he is still a driver. I’m not picking an argument, just trying to put this guy into perspective.
As I hear it the perpetrator was a card carrying member of the Sierra Club, Peta, and the Mojave Land Trust.
I’m not picking an argument either, just trying to put this guy into perspective too.
Let’s say a guy steals some running shoes from Sports Mart, put’s them on and runs away with them on. Is he now a runner? I say he’s a thief in running shoes.
As a responsible OHV’R I think it’s a stretch to link one of us with a criminal. The defensive responses on this post show me that we don’t like to be associated with dirt bags anymore than Sierra Club’rs like to be associated with idiots hikers that set booby traps for OHV’RS in the name of being environmentally friendly. IMO it means that this group cares about our reputation and I think that’s a good thing!
Yet the cops might say “we have a runner”.
As a responsible OHVer, you are not an irresponsible OHVer. That’s all.
Some dogs don’t bite. Some do. They’re still dogs. Nothing wrong with being a dog. Just can’t let them run wild.
Using the dog analogy, they don’t need to run wild, but they also don’t need tied with a short chain, penned up in a small cage or as would make some happy euthanized.
Many, many “dogs don’t bite” and are perfectly capable of exploring with there owners unleashed (just ask Branson)and yet all dogs are treated as if they bite.
Just like all OHV’ers have been turned into criminals.
Without adequate self regulation, bureaucracy rears it’s ugly head. Many offroaders have tried. It’s not fair and it does suck. I don’t know what to tell you.
Blame Honda.
I’m not picking an argument either, just trying to put this guy Branson into perspective. What the heck does he mean, “Seems to me since this jerk was legally off-roading, he is an illegal off-roader.”?
Seeing as to how golf courses are more destructive and environmentally unfriendly than any OHV could ever be this seems to be tit for tat. But the guy is still an asshat for stealing and destroying other folks property.
A true OHV’er he is not. Legal or not…
By “Branson-think”, I fish therefore I am a Fisherman and he writes therefore he is a Writer. Real Writers and real Fishermen would undoubtedly agree that he and I are neither!
And that was precisely the point of Mark’s title, was it not?
Desertrider/Mark, who is a real OHV’er, is showing how inaccurate conclusions are drawn by thinking like that Branson.
You can argue semantics all day and to what purpose we can only guess! But there is no arguing Mark’s point.
Mark and Mike Over 2 years ago I cut down a tree in my back yard just so I could talk to it instead of Branson. Better talking to a stump !!! Best move I ever made in my prolonged life.
Ben, I was going to respond, but I think it no longer necessary, seems others have taken care of it.
Unless of course you have need for more.
