VICTORVILLE • A white supremacist who killed a black Apple Valley man two years ago was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison Friday morning.

Steven Eugene Thurman of Apple Valley was convicted last month of the first-degree murder of Donald Earl Johnson and participation in a criminal street gang. The 22-year-old is a member of the Inland Empire Peckerwoods gang.

Thurman asked the court Friday to reduce the charge from murder to involuntary manslaughter and dismiss the gang enhancement. But Victorville Superior Court Judge John Tomberlin denied his requests.
