Kidnapped 3 11 Big Bear: Kidnap, Assault, Mayhem

On December 7, 2009 at approximately 8:47 p.m., deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service of an attempted murder on Woodland Drive in Erwin Lake. The victim, a 52-year-old female, went to her neighbor’s house shortly before 4:00 p.m. to check on her neighbor’s dog. When the victim entered the residence, she was hit on the head with an unknown object by the suspect, William Haddock, who was hiding behind the door. Haddock is a 44-year-old white male adult who is a transient within the Big Bear Valley.

The victim was able to get away, went outside of the residence and called 9-1-1 on her cell phone. The emergency call was initially taken by CHP who transferred the call to the Sheriff’s Department as a reported disturbance with an unverified address in Erwin Lake. Deputies responded to the disturbance call, conducting an area check in patrol units and on foot, but was unable to locate the caller.

The suspect followed the victim, grabbed her by her hair and drug her back into the residence. Haddock then bound the victim’s hands and feet with tape and electrical cord and proceeded to assault her. He also stole the victim’s jewelry and cell phone.

The reporting party who lives at the residence arrived home several hours later, found the victim still bound, and called the Sheriff’s Department. Haddock was found by deputies at the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was transported to Bear Valley Community Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and observed overnight.

Haddock has been charged with felony counts of attempted murder, kidnap, mayhem and robbery. He is being held at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $1,000,000 bail. An arraignment is set for December 9th in San Bernardino County Court.
