Twentynine Palms, Ca– The Twentynine Palms City Council voted 5-0 to hire Mr. John Tooker as the interim City Manager. He will be replacing Michael Tree until a permanent City Manager is chosen by the next City Council.
Mr. Tooker was the former City Manager for the City of Beaumont, California. He served as the City Manager for that city for 15 years until his retirement.
Mr. Tooker served as the interim manager of the Town of Yucca Valley recently until the new City Manager was chosen and hired.
Mr. Tooker will be receiving $100 per hour with no Medical, dental or retirement benefits. He will however be given a car and gas allowance.
Interim City Managers are part time employees and usually spend about 10 to 15 hours a week on City Business. So we should be writing a check for about $1500.00 a week for the fellow. Mr. Tree’s pay rate worked out to about $133 per hour. This should mean that we will actually save some money on this deal.

DanO, you old insensitive blogger, you could have at least held the story until the local newspapers and the little radio station ran with it first. You also broke the story of the City Manager’s departure, as well as an on-going archive of breaking stories.
Your story didn’t make it into the radio news this morning. Guess that’s because if it’s a news story first broke in Cactus Thorns the radio station guy doesn’t want to touch it. This sort of channeling — or holding back — of local news is not the sort of community news that keep valley people very well informed.
Is it difficult for the local media to adapt to the e-Information age of today and its local bloggers? The newspapers print news only twice a week; at times the radio news is three day old before it’s updated (Friday 9:30 AM to Monday 9:30 AM). I hope our local news outlets aren’t suffering from “culture shock.”

The best deal for the community at large is for both the newspapers and the radio station to accept the fact that alternative news is here to stay.
I understand that Councilmen’s phones were ringing off the hook today as “The Little Radio Guy” was pitching a bitch about Cactus Thorns scooping the Lame Stream Media on this story.
This public information was printed here first because we followed through on what was happening at the council meeting. Maybe “The little Radio Guy.” should have believed the story when it was printed here, attributed it to “Cactus Thorns reports,” and ran the story. But no he now has to wait until the morning and feel bad.
Unlike “the little Radio Guy,” we allow our brother and sister media outlets to use our stories. All they have to do is give us credit. Too bad he doesn’t like sharing, he misses so much.
Maybe his Kindergarten class never taught him about ‘sharing’. He was probably one of those little kids that would kick another kid off the tricycle because he wanted to ride it first. LOL!
