Thank you for logging on to this site.
I’m asking for your support to retain my seat on the 29 Palms City Council. For the past three years I have represented the people and have voted in their best interests. I commit to you that I will continue to represent the citizens of 29 Palms in all matters that come before the Council.
Over the past three years I have represented you as a member of the Board of Directors on the San Bernardino Associated Governments and the Mountain Desert Measure I Committee of San Bernardno Associated Governments (SANBAG).
I have also served on the following Task Forces – Police Department – Fire Department – Code Enforcement – Finance – Parks – Chamber of Commerce – Caltrans and Franchise.
I served in the United States Marine Corps and in the private sector since 1958 and, prior to retiring I worked for 18 years aboard our Marine Corps Base as the Services Operations Manager where I managed many businesses in both Services and Retail.
I have been Pro-Active (not Re-Active) in Code Enforcement, Safety and Street Repair.
My goals for the next four years on the Council will be the completion and implementation of the new General Plan, to construct two new parks, more street repair, crime prevention and supporting our hospitality and tourism industry. I will also work closely with the Marine Corps Base in all aspects that benefit both the Base and the City, such as, a combined Sewer Treatment Facility starting with our downtown area. Using our Redevelopment Agency Funds are also one of my goals for the beautification of our downtown area.
I am always open for suggestions or questions that you may have that will benefit our City. I won’t make any empty promises but will use good common sense to benefit the people of our city. I work for each and every one of you and will continue to do my best to be your voice on the City Council.

I can certainly testify to the fact that Jim listens to citzens and once he knows something needs to be looked in to, he gets started right away. Jim was also one of the no’s that kept 10,000 dollars (tax payer dollars)from going to a non-profit, to be used as it wanted to. Jim’s experience and willingness to listen gets a yes from me.
Thank you for your support Cora. I promise you that i will not stop when it comes to defending any of our Citizens who have problems that we have the ability to help resolve.
Mr. Harris,
I am a new member but have been following this website for the last couple months. I am glad to see that you are on here and would like to know if you will be willing to answer some of my questions? Whether they are tough or not. I have noticed that some of the candidates that have utilized this website have tried to share their views when asked. Thanks.
If there are some of them that I can answer, I will certainly attempt to do that.
Mr. Harris,
A couple of times in this city’s short history we have seen a sham pulled on the voters by candidates that had hidden agendas. These candidates used their seats on the council as a vehicle for a high paying position with the city. Yes, they used their council connection bypassing and limiting better qualified applicants from the coveted high paying government job. Cronyism seems to be the only way to get a job in this town where the practice of pushing the legal envelope has become common practice. I would like to know if you feel this type of action is moral.
If what you say is true, i don’t think it is ethical. I only know of one person who applied and got a job with the city and it is not a high paying job. If you can tell me what jobs you are referring to, i will look at the pay for that job and tell you.
Jim don’t be duped. That is O’Brien bitching about Corbin. Stay above it, he is trying to set you up. S/F
Jason,
Since the campaigns began I have never uttered a ill word against Jim Harris. I have opened up my website to him to post in a unlimited and unrestricted fashion. This I have offered to all candidates.
While the Main Stream is charging hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the local market for candidates to get their message out, I have provided my website to those candidates for Nada, Zip, Zilch. We have served about 3 Million hits last month alone. It looks as though we will break the 4 million hit mark this month.
All serious candidates for the 29 Palms Council have posted here. All have access to post or comment at their discretion. Even your friend Corbin has posted here and has an active account.
We have freely posted the statements of all candidates that we have been able to contact and those that understand the modern information age. We remain open and willing to accept candidate statements and posts.
Your preposterous assumption that I have some nefarious plan to set up any candidate is ridiculous on its face. What would be the point? Are you serious? You really have misjudged what is going on. It is all about a fair election.
This website does not have any plans to endorse any candidate. We on the other hand keep the site open free and fair for all. With a few narrow **exceptions we try not to speak ill of any candidate.
We will of course report any violations of campaign law and what we feel is illegal, immoral or unethical activity by any candidate. Pity the candidate that crosses the line.
So far this has been fairly clean election and we want to keep it that way. We are striving for fairness. The candidates are all deserving of election and it comes down to who do you believe can do the job and who best represents your views.
**exceptions: I reserve the right to single out any candidate that I feel is a menace to society and has a record of abuse of power and lacks leadership skills. I have done that and feel I am fulfilling a public service by doing so. So if you don’t like my opinion skip over my posts, there is a whole bunch here to read that has nothing to do with politics or for that matter written by me.
Would you fight for the people’s right to know how the city spends their money? It is sad that those seeking office won’t engage in a little on line debate, I am sure the voters would like to know their views. Candidates please answer. Do you think it would be right for the city to post all expenditures and the receipeance of the expenditures via a simple and understandable format on the internet?
Mark,
I am not a candidate, but I am a voter and yes I would like to see how the city spends its money. I would like to read the city’s 2009 report and compare it with 2008 financial report. but good luck getting the other candidates to debate you on here. Most people are afraid to say what they really want to, and some are uninformed to what is in the financial report and/or how the city truly runs its business license department. At the two forums that I attended you said what most people think, but won’t admit to. but let me say I do like most of the candidates and think that it is a hard decision for people, but if people are looking for a change, I believe you are offering a change. Most candidates have a hard time saying anything about the chamber and the chamber is a good organization with good people, but it is not perfect. Most other candidates have a hard time saying that they would not support monetarily non-profit organizations, but you are quite clear about the fact that you do not want to use taxpayer money for that. You have some unpopular views although I share many of them and I respect the fact that you speak your mind and sometimes you use humor to do so. I also like that you understand that postretirement health plans are too costly for the city. Thanks Mark for being you and saying what you believe, you are a refreshing candidate.
