Prosecutors Block Site Offering 'Berkley' Degrees - The Daily Californian
Until last week, a man who calls himself Dr. Dennis Globosky sold
thousands of degrees over the Internet from a familiar-sounding
University of Berkley for as little as $2,065.
UC Berkeley officials previously sent cease and desist letters to
Globosky, claiming he violated the school’s trademark rights. However,
it was not until last week, after Pennsylvania prosecutors sued
Globosky and his business for consumer fraud, that his company was
stopped from issuing degrees...

kingcountyjournal.com - Fake therapist gets stiff sentence for cheating clients; counselor used false degrees, charisma to steal more than $800,000 from ADD patients
He gained their trust and stole their money, but Friday was payback time for a phony therapist. A judge sentenced former Redmond counselor William F. Bentley III to nine years in prison for lying about his credentials and bilking his patients and their families out of more than $800,000. Prosecutors asked for the exceptionally stiff sentence, well above the standard range of 3½ to 5 years in prison, because Bentley repeatedly used lies and deception to rip off his trusting clients for hundreds of thousands of dollars. They thought they were donating to his startup psychology clinic in Redmond for children with attention-deficit disorder. http://www.kingcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/211732 08:10
PA AG After NM State Trooper for Diploma Mill Fraud
ERIE, Pa., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney General Tom Corbett today filed
a civil lawsuit against a former New Mexico State Trooper accused of operating
an Erie-based online "diploma mill" and phony accreditation institution that
sold thousands of bogus Associate, Bachelor's, Masters, Doctorate and Honorary
degrees to individuals nationally and internationally.
The complaint and separate motion for special injunction seeking to shut down the online business was filed in Erie County Court. The legal action investigated by Corbett's Bureau of Consumer Protection additionally seeks to permanently prohibit the defendant from engaging in business in the state and require the payment of fines and costs. During a news conference at his Erie Office today, Corbett identified the defendants as 50-year-old Dennis James Globosky, last known address 204 German St., Erie, and Globosky's businesses, "The University of Berkley," "The University of Berkley Online," UofB Inc., and "accreditation institution" New Millennium Accrediting Partnership for Educators Worldwide or "N.A.P.F.E.W." Globosky served on the New Mexico State Police force from 1978-1979. According to the lawsuit, Globosky is operating from offices located at 2700 West 21st St., Suite 24, Erie, despite representations in advertising materials that the University has numerous satellite offices throughout the U.S., including Berkley, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. Various documents claim that "N.A.P.F.E.W." has a Washington, D.C. mailing address. More 06 07 05 20:23

The Payson Roundup: Is there a doctor in the house?
Attending a Gila County Community College Board of Governors meeting anymore is like watching the Three Stooges' comedy short, "Men in Black." For those of you unfamiliar with the gag, Larry, Moe and Curly play three deadbeat medical school flunkies, Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine and Dr. Howard. The threesome bumble through the hospital over the loudspeaker's nonstop paging: "Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard. Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard." The list of doctors at Gila Community College, now run by Eastern Arizona College, keeps growing. Yesterday, the board of governors announced the appointment of Dr. Harry Swanson as dean of the Payson campus. He completes the triumvirate of EAC's Gila County diploma-mill educated leadership: Dr. Stephen Cullen, dean of the Gila Pueblo campus and Margo Bracamonte, senior dean. 16:57

Words that come back to haunt you.
Joshua Tree radio station KCDZ 107.7-FM aired an editorial in late 2002 that said Yucca Town Manager Stewart (presently the city manage of Barstow) didn't have the background needed to be the town manager.
"Good town managers," News Director Gary Daigneault said in the editorial, "spend years in top schools studying public administration, learning the laws of the state, how a county interfaces with its municipalities, tax laws, redevelopment, reimbursements ... ." http://www.desertdispatch.com/2004/107460898495369.html This is a great example of Gary Daigneault's double standards, and in his own words to boot.
